NAHSMS 2005 Spring Rally
S O A P B O X

I am almost 800 km from the US border so I lost half my fuel just getting there! Anyway, I had a great time! - XE2AT

Seemed like a lot more activity this year, especially during the daytime. There were rocks to be had at noon, some days. Thanks for the fun rally. - K2OVS

I ran unassisted this year, and had good fun as always. - K1JT

Really enjoyed the rally this spring! Ran high power until TE amp blew up. - KC6ZWT

Not much activity heard. Called CQ several mornings and listened some too, with nothing heard at all. Was on seven of the nine mornings from about 5:45 to 6:45; longer on Saturdays and Sundays. Heard WA5UFH briefly calling CQ. Did not complete with W4RBO and WD4KPD. Managed to complete with K1JT on Sunday morning. Running 50 watts to a 4 element homebrew yagi. Better luck next time! - AD4TJ

Only one QSO, very high line noise as of late. I also did quite a bit of monitoring, but not much activity. - KB3KOT

Generally poor conditions with high local QRN. - W9SE

I ran unassisted, rover. Here's a picture in the wilds of Louisiana for those who like a challenge; wont repeat! - N4FRE

I intended to run as unassisted for this contest, but midway through I got frustrated by the low activity and switched over to the assisted category to make more QSOs. Many of my QSOs were made via a remote control link over the Internet from my townhouse (no antennas allowed here) to the club station at work. More QSO points should be awarded for 144 MHz compared to 50 MHz since QSOs on that upper band are much harder. - AJ6T

The meteors were good most of the time here. I had a new power line noise source pop up but it cooperated for the most part. The weather also cooperated and no thunderstorms this year to create static. I had a very good time running QSO's with my friends on this mode. Thanks to all those of the WSJT Group that put the hours in to make these events happen. - AF4O

As always the contest was great, but it's getting better because of more activity! I worked all but one of my contacts by calling CQ on 144.140, with offset. That worked pretty well but I really was also monitoring the calling frequency during my listen periods and was surprised not to hear much activity. A few were calling CQ, but I had already worked most of them. But I think a lot more of the guys were monitoring .140 because I worked a lot more than ever before. In fact I worked six stations the first day! The last two days were slow, but did pick up one last contact on Sunday evening. Was hoping for one more contact besides that one, so I could finally break 1000 points, but that goal is for another contest, hi. I'm really pleased to see the increased activity. One of the most important things about this kind of contesting is to be patient and wait long enough for the reply before giving up. It seems that people are realizing this. I think a lot of the credit has to go to the guys who run the weekly activity hours. That activity keeps everyone who is interested aware of the stations on the band and how workable they are. - K2TXB
